Category 1: Classroom Teaching
(Skills, Tactics, Techniques, Systems etc..)

Category 2: School Management Skills Development
(Marketing, Sales, Team Building etc…)

Eligibility: Applicants must qualify for at least one of the following categories:

  • Be at least a 2nd dan instructor; part time or full time
  • Be a university student studying Taekwondo (or Other Martial Art)
  • Be a school/Dojang owner and/or operator

All entries must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a professional Taekwondo (or Other Martial Art) practitioner.

The Contest Details:

A. To provide a better learning opportunity for professional Martial Artists in both classroom teaching and school management.

  • Your presentation must contain a stated purpose to help others understand why you are operating your School as you do. (ie. You mission, your operational philosophy, your overarching ‘principles’ for the strategy you are presenting.

A. All presentations must be conducted in English
B. If the presenter is not comfortable speaking in English, a translator must accompany the speaker

  1. The presenter must provide their own translator

A. Completed application form.
B. Passport size photo.
C. Recommendation letter from a professional Taekwondo practitioner.
D. Brief video overview of presentation (3 minutes or less).
E. PowerPoint presentation (15 slides or less).
F. Written document explanation of PowerPoint (10 pages or less).
G. Additional video must be in following order (10 minutes or less).

  1. Intent – what are you trying to do? How are you helping the student understand?
  2. Purpose – Why are the students practicing poomsae?
  3. Effect – how is it affecting the student?
  4. Demonstration – please include an example demonstration of how these methods are applied. You may have a student in the video to assist you, but it is recommended that if the student is used in the video, they are to also accompany you to the live contest judging.

A. Submitted materials will not be returned to the presenter

  1. Please keep copies of all documents

B. Stage

  1. Presentations must fit on a 16 x 8 foot stage

C. All contents must be approved by the USTC organizing committee prior to the presentation

  1. Everything being shown at the live judging must be pre-approved. If showcasing new material that has not been screened, the presenter is eligible for disqualification

D. Elimination

  1. Elimination will take place September 30, 2019 at Black Belt World, 300 Black Belt World Dr. Knightdale, NC 27545
  2. Results will be announced through the USTC website and facebook
  3. Only 3-4 winners in each division (Classroom Teaching and School Management) will advance to the final live judging; 7 finalists total.

E. Final

  1. Final will take place Saturday, October 12, 2019 2:00pm EDT – 7:00pm EDT
  2. Embassy Suites by Hilton Raleigh Crabtree, 4700 Creedmoor Rd. Raleigh, NC 27612
  3. Presentation must not exceed 20 minutes
  4. Question and Answer session will follow (10 minutes or less,  presentation plus q&a must not exceed more than 30 minutes total)
  5. The order of presenters will be announced through the USTC website and facebook at least two days prior to the event

F. Awards

1st Place: $1,000.00 cash + $3,000.00 prize package.
2nd Place: $500.00 cash + $2,000.00 prize package.
3rd Place: $300.00 cash + $1,000.00 prize package.
4th Place: $150.00 cash + $500.00 prize package.

G. Video recording of any kind is prohibited during the live contest

  1. Photography and video disrupts the integrity of the event and is prohibited

A. Five judges will preside over the contest
B. Judging criteria

  1. Innovative ideas and methods to contribute to the development of Martial Arts in the United States
  2. All content is appropriate for Family Based Martial Arts Schools
  3. Only content will be judged, not the presenter

C. Scores and placement

  1. Total combined scores after excluding highest and lowest
  2. In the event of a tie, the judges will vote

D. Presenter must wear a clean Martial Arts Uniform (dobok) or business attire and any/all assistants must wear a clean, full Uniform
